Airbus A350 – Design & Development
13 November 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeWe are delighted to welcome one of Scotland’s foremost engineers as our MacMillan 2018 speaker. This lecture will be of interest to people from a wide range of engineering disciplines and those who have a general interest in engineering matters.
Gordon McConnell was the Chief Engineer for the Airbus A350, a long range wide-body jet airliner which entered service in 2015. An important feature is the aircraft’s all-new carbon fibre reinforced plastic wing and fuselage that results in lower weight/fuel consumption, as well as lower maintenance costs.
Gordon will take us through the steps from the initial design to entering service.
In 2014 Gordon was awarded the Royal Aeronautical Societies Gold Medal for work of an outstanding nature in Aerospace. The Council of European Aerospace Societies made their 2016 award to Gordon, stating that ‘Through his exceptional leadership in technical and engineering development and personal contribution to the success of Airbus, he has made an outstanding contribution to European aerospace.’
