Annual Poster Competition and Social Event

It is a showcase for the work being undertaken by new talent in our industry, and presents an opportunity for sharing knowledge between the fields of Geology and Geotechnical Engineering. In addition, there will be a technical presentation on a current industry issue. The event is the SSG Annual Social Event to which all members, guests and anyone with an interest are warmly invited.

The entry process for places in the competition has now closed. Competition entrants will be informed if they have been awarded a place on or shortly after 4th November 2016.

The night’s technical presentation introduces the Engineering Group of the Geological Society of London (EGGS) Working Party’s book on the engineering geology and geomorphology of glaciated and periglaciated terrains. The aim of this EGGS Working Party was to provide an authoritative state-of-the-art review from an engineering geological viewpoint on the ground conditions associated with former Quaternary periglacial and glacial environments, including their materials, hazards and the approach to investigation, design and construction.

It is intended that this book will provide essential guidance for engineering geomorphologists, engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers working in such problematic ground conditions and is expected to be published in late 2016 or early 2017. The technical presentation is intended to act as a ‘taster’ for a more extensive event within the Geological Society CSRG programme for September 2017.
