Blackout! – Is Scotland at risk?

6 December 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

Is the risk of a Scottish blackout rising or falling? If “YES” who is responsible? What are the consequences?

Since 2008, electrical power supply and distribution systems in Scotland and the UK have massively changed due mainly to political changes with the adoption of the 2008 Climate Change Act, without due regard to reliability, cost, safety, and the environment.

Reliable and low-cost coal-powered plants are being replaced by intermittent facilities powered by wind and the sun.

This presentation will outline the issue and start to address the key questions is the system robust? Will Scotland experience blackouts?

Speaker –  Dr Euan Mearns, Editor, Energy Matters
