Low Temperature Heating Systems
5 December 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
£20This afternoon seminar features three presentations by experts in various aspects of low temperature heat generation and distribution.
Thermally Activated Building Structures (TABS) by Franz Huelle, REHAU
TABS are being increasingly specified for low energy buildings as an energy efficient heating and cooling distribution system which works well in conjunction with heat pumps. Pipework is incorporated into the concrete slab of a building to utilise the thermal mass of concrete for heating and cooling. This operates at far lower flow temperatures than a conventional underfloor heating and cooling system and will significantly reduce the cooling energy requirements of a building. Most UK projects where it has been used have been constructed to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ or to the Passivhaus standard.
Ground Source Heat Pumps, by Chris Davidson, Genius Energy Lab
Ground source heat pumps qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive, and naturally integrate with moderate temperature distribution systems such as underfloor, with very high efficiencies for properly designed installations. The session will introduce ground source heating and cooling technology from the domestic to large commercial scale and will consider how to specify the technology in combination with underfloor heating, thermally active structures and chilled beams.
Delivering the 2040 Goals of clean air, decarbonised energy and fuel security- starting now, by Dave Pearson, Star Renewable Energy
A Norwegian town which has already achieved the 2040 sustainability goals has inspired schemes across the UK to re-evaluate the challenge and will be a case study in this talk. This presentation will show why a better understanding of the challenge is required, why it can be delivered but more importantly leave the audience with no doubt as to what has to change in our society to see progress. Dave Pearson promises to get the gloves off!
