Microfluidics – a technology overview and an Edinburgh success story

13 November 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

Microfluidics emerged in the 1990’s as a major new technique targeted at improving the speed and performance of a huge range of chemical and biological processes within the Life Sciences arena and which are required across Drug Discovery, Diagnostics and Healthcare.

The presenter will provide an account of how a start-up company in Edinburgh took on this multi-disciplinary challenge in the microfluidics field and developed innovative new technology which made it “through the tunnel” to secure sales across six continents before being acquired in 2011 by its biggest competitor.

The talk will also review other successes (and failures) in the microfluidics field and take a look over the horizon at what might be coming soon …..
