Saughton Park Energy Centre – Tour of the UK’s 1st fully Eco-powered green space (10am)

17 May 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

In 2016 Edinburgh Council received £8m to fund a restoration project focused on the redevelopment of the landscape and horticultural elements of Saughton Park as well as the building and upgrade of existing recreational and visitor facilities. The Saughton Park restoration project was managed through the CEC Parks, Greenspace and Cemeteries service working closely with the CEC Sustainable Development Team.

To increase the value of Saughton Park as an asset, the masterplan also included renewable energy options and infrastructure. This early stage consideration for including green energy options into park master planning was supported through the ParkPower programme run by greenspace scotland. Saughton Park was the first ParkPower project, a pioneer that has demonstrated the important role that greenspace can play in transforming our current energy system.

Attendee notes:
– We will meet at the BISTRO COURTYARD area of the park

– Parking is available at West Entrance, by Courtyard (off Ford’s Road via Stenhouse Avenue).

– Public Transport: LRT Buses 22, 3, 33, 25, 63, 1, 30 – also, 5 minutes walk from Balgreen Tram Stop.

Speaker(s)

Pete McDougall was the Council’s Project Development Officer at Saughton Park during the development of the Energy Centre. He was heavily involved in the construction of the facility and has kindly offered to share his expertise with IMechE members.
