Scottish Flooding Winter 2015/16

20 April 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

The Flood Risk Management team has developed and delivered Scotland’s first national FRM Strategies, working with a wide range of SEPA colleagues, including strategic mapping and modelling, flood forecasting and warning, river basin management planning and land use planning.

The strategies have been developed in partnership with Local Authorities, Scottish Water, the Scottish Government and many other stakeholders under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009.

They provide an overview of planned future flood risk management activities in Scotland, identifying actions for delivery in the first 6 year cycle (2016-2022), as well as setting up a pipeline of future actions in subsequent delivery cycles.

This lecture will cover:

  • The winter 2015/2016 – magnitude, frequency, impacts, challenges, resulting changes.
  • An update on 2016 flooding events.
  • Scotland’s first cycle Flood Risk Management Strategies – brief context.
  • First cycle Strategies – actions and delivery progress.
  • Future development.
