Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme
16 March 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
FreeFrom its inception in autumn 2009 to projected completion in winter 2016, the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme was the first scheme with an Environmental Statement to be taken forward under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009.
CH2M provided the design, consultation and site supervision services over the entire project period to deliver a scheme which protects over 600 properties from the effects of the 1-in-200-year-plus climate change flood event.
This event will cover how the design and management team dealt with some interesting challenges including:
- Adapting an existing loch for the purposes of flood storage
- Dealing with incredibly permeable subsoils
- Learning how a new piece of legislation works in practice
- Liaising with scheme objectors
- Liaising with members of the public surprised by the magnitude of engineering works required
- Unusual protected species
- Managing frustrations and non-compliances during construction
