Sir William Arrol & Co

29 November 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Best known for building some of the UK’s most iconic engineering structures, such as the Forth and Tay Bridges, and Tower Bridge in London, Sir William Arrol & Co was responsible for the construction of a much wider range of buildings and structures.

Miles Oglethorpe will explain that, from the 1880s on, and throughout both World Wars in particular, Arrol’s company was an industry behind industry without which large sectors of the Scottish and UK economies could not have functioned. Dr Miles Oglethorpe is the Head of Industrial Heritage at Historic Environment Scotland.
