Smart Cities: Challenges, opportunities, and success

1 December 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Cities face huge challenges in their ongoing development – as well as major opportunities to make their citizens wealthier, healthier, and more successful. Smart city design and systems offer opportunities to deliver cities and associated services in ways that are more efficient, higher quality, more reliable, and create greater positive impacts.

Cities are the focus of global resource consumption and global economic production. They require reliable and resilient wider systems to deliver high quality of life, and to support their successful growth. Over the next 30 years cities in the developing world are expected to grow by over 2.5 billion people – associated investment in critical systems will be on a similar scale.

Richard Bellingham, Director of the Institute for Future Cities at Strathclyde, will cover the challenges and opportunities for cities, the implications for infrastructure and service development, and how smart approaches can offer value for citizens, developers and investors.
