Women in STEM Conference: A little more action
15 May 2018 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
There is keen interest and engagement from Universities and Colleges to tackle gender imbalances at subject level, driven by the need to achieve the targets set out in the Gender Action Plan (GAP). However, with targets to reach and significant under-representation of women across STEM, now is the time to maximise efforts and focus on tried, tested and successful methods.
Equate Scotland’s Women in STEM Conference provides an opportunity for academics, professional staff and students who are working on the gender action plan, equality and diversity and /or more inclusive curriculums to refresh or build on current activities in this area. It’s an opportunity to learn from each other and explore appropriate and practical solutions that align with your institution’s strategic goals to tackle gender equality. It’s an opportunity to share what is working and what is not across the academic sector.
Dame Anne Glover DBE, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Vice Principal for External Affairs and Dean for Europe at University of Aberdeen will open the event with a key note speech followed by Heather Bruce, 2nd year Masters in Mechanical Engineering student, Edinburgh Napier University. The event will encompass six different one hour workshops, where delegates will attend 2 out of the 6 workshops.
The conference will also feature a Gender in Action Panel where delegates will hear from a college, a university, a student group and an administration professional who have experienced success by trying something different in their institutions. Hear about the challenges they overcame, the opportunities they have championed and how you can do the same.
