Welcome to Engineering Scotland’s website, which was introduced to provide a user-friendly means of accessing information about engineering societies and their events in Scotland.
The following notes may be helpful in making the most of the new facilities:-
No log-in is required for this website unless you require to upload events on behalf of a current or prospective member organisation in which case please send an email to the Honorary Secretary if you have not already been sent a new username and password.
This website includes new ways of accessing events of interest to professional engineers in Scotland. The main page for that purpose is the Events Calendar. The default view is a chronological listing for the current month. Alternative views can be accessed by clicking “VIEW AS” at the top right of that page. “Month,” for example, shows a calendar view with all the events by day. Rolling your cursor over any event automatically displays a box with further information about that event.
Information on member organisations and other organisations of interest can be accessed here. For the most part, the “Organisations” page links out to the individual member organisations’ websites to ensure information listed is current.
Accessing that information from this website provides a single entry point for engineering institutions in Scotland.
As with all websites, features will be added and refined over time.
We hope that you enjoy the website and find it easy to use. If you have suggestions for improvements, please get in touch.
If you wish to access the historical database of information, you can do that here and you will need your old username (consisting of your initials and some numbers) and password for that purpose.
Our Objectives:
The principal objectives of Engineering Scotland shall be the fostering of, support for, and furtherance of the continuing education of professional engineers of all levels, together with the similar education of the public at large, about matters of current, historical or future
engineering practice or theory.
This shall largely be achieved through the dissemination of information about lectures, talks and professional meetings organised in Scotland, whether in association with the continuing professional development of engineers or otherwise, or through the direct organisation of similar meetings, but may extend to any wider activities which facilitate Engineering Scotland achieving its objectives.
Our History:
Engineering Scotland is the lineal descendant of the Federation of Engineering Societies in Glasgow and the West of Scotland which was established in 1931. Philip W Thomas, the founder, is commemorated by the Philip W Thomas Award – the most recent recipients of the award being Tim West and Andrew Gilchrist.
